Remembered Today:

K Class Sub on Chatham Memorial

Hi folks,

Recently I had the pleasure of going to the Chatham Naval Memorial to photograph the names of two relations there - one, coincidentally, a submariner.

I was interested to note that on the panel recording "Enemy Shore Actions" that there is a ship with a submarine alongside bearing the number on her conning tower K15 (I think - I can't read it in my photo). I realise that these numbers often bore little relation to the submarine carrying them, but this is to my eye almost certainly a K-boat - raised bow, funnels, the lot.

Can anyone think why such an obviously recognisable submarine might have been used when the depictions on the other four memorials, with the possible exception of the Shorts seaplane on the opposite panel, seem to be generic, or atleast not clearly labeled with an identifying name/number?
