I have recently had the pleasure of being shown (by the recipient's daughter), the medals awarded to her father, Walter Arnold. The group consists of:

MM Geo V, Bwm, Vic, (35932 Pte W Arnold Bord Regt) 1939/35, Africa, Italy Stars, Defence,War and ISM Walter Arnold).

Walter Arnold served with the 5th Border Regiment in WW1 and with REME during WW2. He was evacuated from Dunkirk and subsequently served in North Africa, Greece and Italy.

His service papers show he was called up in September 1939 and that he proceeded to France.

His WW2 service is quite well documented but unfortunately, his WW1 is not. Can any tell me how he won the MM?

All/any help would be most welcome.

Thank you.

Or wade through the London Gazette (if you dont have broad band it will take hours)
