the gunners dream Posted 25 August , 2005 Share Posted 25 August , 2005 Hi Chris All the records regarding the Royal Air Force in WWI are held in numerous places. At the PRO they are found on a document called AIR 79. The document is arranged by service number. Before you view AIR 79 you can look at AIR 78 which is like an index to AIR 79. This document will record basic data, date and place of birth, physical description, date of enlistment, units served and medal awards. You would have to visit the PRO to view these documents. You can also contact the RAF Museum and they can help you with your research. I've provided alink to the relevant page on their site: http://www.rafmuseum.org.uk/london/research/index.cfm Finally, there there is RAF Innsworth which also holds a lot of details about casualties. http://www.mod.uk/contacts/raf_records.htm Steve Smith
Roy Evans Posted 25 August , 2005 Share Posted 25 August , 2005 Chris, I've just checked in 'Airmen Died in the Great War'. Barnes has an entry which confirms (part of) what you already have on him but Bromwich has no entry at all. Roy

Terry Denham Posted 25 August , 2005 Share Posted 25 August , 2005 Chris Here is a photo of Barnes' headstone in Eastbourne (Ocklynge) Cemetery, East Sussex. 'Airmen Died' does not include men who died after 11.11.18.
