Guest PROCONSUL Posted 23 August , 2005 Share Posted 23 August , 2005 Hello, Is there an expert on the Gloucesters in WW1 who can tell me when a No. 23930 might have joined the colours? Medal Index Card L/101 B23 shows a BWM & Vic only so I surmise his enlistment was 1916 onwards? Known to have survived the war and reputed to have served at Passchendale and on the Piave in Italy but this is oral history. His daughter in Australia is getting on and has a keen interest. Roberts is also reputed to have been gassed and to have been involved in suppressing a mutiny late in the war. Worcesters? Thanks to all who can help. Promenade Posted 23 August , 2005 Share Posted 23 August , 2005 Tim, No 23930 Pte John Roberts enlisted about 20/8/15. Pte Alfred J Base No 23926 enlisted 20/8/15 and Pte John Elliott No 23943 enlisted 23/8/15. After training Pte Roberts would have been drafted to France in early 1916.
