Chris Posted 18 August , 2005 Share Posted 18 August , 2005 Hi Given the recent excellent pics that have been on the forum of Sausage Valley and La Boiselle i thought i would add this pic i took several years ago. Taken from the lip of Lochnager looking towards Fricourt the chalk marks on the opposite side of Sausage Valley marking the trenches of the German position, Heligoland, and showing how they the German troops there on the 1st july were able to take such a devastating toll on the Grimsby Chums as they advanced into the valley. The chalk also shows up the start of the branch of the old track that led up to Contalmaison. Hope of interest Chris
