Remembered Today:

Disembodied?

Anyone know what disembodied means on a 1914-15 roll? Also listed are men who were 'discharged' and 'transferred to Z Reserves', so it can't mean any of those as I thought.

Embodiment: The mobilisation of the complete TF at outbreak of hostilities .

It did not happen to an individual except by virtue of his belonging to the unit at the time the unit was embodied. Before the TF existed , embodiment was also what happened when the Militia were required.

Disembodiment was, in effect, the unit being stood down.

Plenty in SEARCH.
