Any information about "B" Coy. 21st Bn. London Regiment on and around 04/11/1917 would be appreciated. Thought to be at Gavrelle, north-east of Arras.

Chris.

Chris, nothing too specific, I'm afraid, but 47 Div History reports that Div was certainly in Gavrelle area, on the 'Gavrelle - Oppy front', with div HQ at Victory camp, Ecurie. Although not inlving the 21st, there was a raid by 2 Bns of 142 Bde (23rd and 24th Londons) on 4th November, on a front of 1,000 yards, immediately south of the Gavrelle/Arras road. Over 100 Germans were killed, and 15 prisoners taken for the loss of 11 killed and 42 wounded.

The div was in this sector from late September until around 20th November when it left for Cambrai.

Sorry can't help more - hope it's a start.

Hi Chris,

Nothing to speak of in the Battalion History but try this link. It will take you to the Unit War Diary for November 1917.

1/21 London - November 1917
