Hambo Posted 17 August , 2005 Share Posted 17 August , 2005 Chris I have the battalion history and according to that they were out of the line training at Barly (don't know where that was I'm afraid) from the 12th of May to the 6th of June. Incidently they also had a group of American troops attached to them at this time. On the 6th they were paraded and entrained on a light railway arriving at Monchy-au Bois at 10.30pm. They were taking over from the 2nd Grenadier Guards at Ayette when during the move up to the line they were shelled. By the time the hand over was completed at 2.30am on the 7th they had lost 2nd Lt G.H.Spicer and 9 men killed and 10 other ranks wounded. Hope this is what you're after Hambo
Steven Broomfield Posted 17 August , 2005 Share Posted 17 August , 2005 2nd Division history confirms - relieved 12/13 May (by 32nd Divn) and into reserve (VI Corps). On 5-7 June, the Div relieved the Guards Div in the Bazeque Wood area, still in VI Corps, as part of 3rd Army. 6 Bde (including 17 RF) took over the centre sub-sector on night 7/8 June.
