I have 2 London Gazette dates and page nos for mentions in despatch for A Graham Spark but I cannot get them to come up on the online London Gazette.

What am I doing wrong?

Hi Jane,

Don't know what you're doing so can't help in that way, but by searching with either A. G. Spark or Archibald Graham Spark you get three different returns:

A. G. Spark: A.G. Spark

Gazette Edition, Issue 29718 - 22-August-1916

Gazette Edition, Issue 29661 - 11-July-1916

Archibald Graham Spark:Graham Spark

Gazette Edition, Issue 30111 - 1-June-1917

Also the Gazette lists the editions by the Published dates not the date on the actual edition. The published dates can be 2 or 3 days before the edition date.

That may be what is throwing you out.

If you search by initials remember to add the full stops and spaces.

MIDs sometimes also have the structure of Number, Surname, Rank, Initials so :

eg. 10500 Spark, Pte. A. G.

might locate it whereas A. G. Spark may not. If you can find an MIC (not always separate for MIDs) then entering the exact rank can help.

e.g. Spark, Pte. (A/L/C) A. G.

could be needed.
