I've just finished reading the book "Birds Without Wings" by Louis de Bernieres. He also wrote "Captain Correlli's Mandolin" (the book was much better than the film). The most recent book is set in Turkey during the first quarter of the 20th century. It's centred on a village near Fethiye (south western Turkey) but has passages of Mustafa Kemal's biography, including his time at Gallipoli. One of the central characters was a soldier (Turkish) at Gallipoli during the August campaign. It's interesting to read a/an (fictional) account of Chanuk Bair (Conk Bayiri) from the Turkish perspective. Are there any others?

RICHER DUST by Stanton Hope is a novel about a fictitous RND battalion during the Gallipoli campaign. It was published in mid 1920s but is newly available from N&M Press.

Can I also suggest that keen readers of fiction may like to search out "Long White Cloud ... Gallipoli" by the Turkish author Bujet Uzuner. It is a recent Turkish best seller and an engrossing read spinning a tale about a NZ visitor to the peninsula searching out her family past with an interesting twist. Even in translation it is an excellent read.
