:( Any pals out there an authority on DLI in particular the Stockton on Tees formed DLI Bn ? Is there any way i can check the following surviving soldier:

Pte (i think ?) John Robert Moore DLI

Born in Stockton on Tees, living in Nicholson St.

Lost an eye during the war, just begining this trail so help would be gratefully appreciated.

What information do you have on him?

5 Bn DLI was based around the Stockton area but that does not mean he went into this battalion. He could have went into one of the service battalions. Have you looked for his medal card? Give me what info you have and I'll see if I can help.

According to the Medal Cards there are three soldiers with the name J R Moore who served with the DLI in the Great War, one of them was a Private.

To view them costs £3.50 each on the National Archives website. If the Private is a John Robert and the other two have different names for the J R, then you could have your man.
