RFC/RAF Uniforms

In RFC/RAF uniform Photos of 1914-1918 I've Noticed at least two different types of uniforms-at least for Officers:

1) Standard dress uniform -similar to infantry Kitt-except with the addition of "Wings" over the left hand pocket.

2) A Short blouse which buttoned at the shoulder worn with Sam Browne Harness.

Can anyone please enlightened me as to standard RFC/RAF Uniform Kitts?

Officers within the RFC certainly in the first 2-3 years of the war did not enter the RFC directly( Some did re Lewis --Sagitarius Rising ) as a whole but were "Attached RFC" from their regiment. Thus pictures show them in infantry/artillery etc dress with the addition of the pilots or observers wings on the breast. The front and shoulder fastened jacket was introduced as a distinctive RFC dress although army uniform continued to be worn. The RNAS wore naval uniform. It wasn,t until their merger as the RAF in 1918 that standard RAF uniform became the norm. SG

Just to add a little to this subject. The RNAS only wore naval uniform in the UK. When proceeding abroad they wore a kahki version of naval uniform. Although in 1918 a few ex RNAS men wore RAF uniforms the majority clung on to every part of naval uniform that was still wearable. Photographs taken in 1919 still show the odd naval cap etc. Many of them resented their forceable transfer to the new force. Indeed it still rankles with the FAA of today.
