Remembered Today:

Dates of Replacement of Original Grave Markers ?

I suspect Terry may be able to help with this one.

There is a grave marker for Private Francis C.B Coward in Leatherhead Church. It came from the H.A.C Cemetery in Ecoust-St-Mein. We are trying to establish when it may have been lodged at the church. We suspect sometime in the 20's but wonder if the exact dates between which the markers were replaced is recorded somewhere ?

This would give us an "earliest possible" date to start a search of the parish magazine archive.

There is no quick way to find out.

Contact CWGC giving the details. They should still have the record of when the first headstone was erected on the grave. This would logically give the earliest date when the wooden marker could have returned. However, it still could have been held by someone overseas for a while afterwards.

It is possible that the record may not still exist at CWGC.
