Guest Keith Golden Posted 19 July , 2003 Share Posted 19 July , 2003 I recently found your website, it is a tremendous resource. Recently I hired a research service to find what they could on my grandfather's service. They found out that he served in the 142 Siege Battery RGA during April and May of 1917, where he earned the Military Cross on May 22. The research service said the unit was located at Augres. Could anybody help me in finding out what Army the 142nd would have been attached to during the spring of 1917? This website indicates that the 142nd could have been attached to either the First or Fourth Armies by Nov. 1918. Would it have been attached to either of these units a year and a half earlier? What battle could his unit had been involved in during the spring of 1917? And where is Augres? I'm trying to piece together as much information as I can on my granddad's career, and filling in the blanks on this unit's actions would help immensely. Thanks to anyone that can help. Greenwoodman Posted 19 July , 2003 Share Posted 19 July , 2003 According to the "History of the Royal Regiment of Artillery", 142 was a 6" Howitzer Battery, a component of 34th Bde RGA attached to 1st Army in November 1918. 34th Bde attracts some comment, but only in reference to the advance to victory (1918).
