doogal Posted 5 August , 2005 Share Posted 5 August , 2005 Hi All, it may well have been asked before, but as its Friday, more idle thoughts: How many UK photographers, if any, set up studios in France, for the duration? If there were any, does anyone know which companies, and whereabouts? I have my doubts about how easy it would have been to get to France at the time, but where there's muck... It seems to me it may have been an excellent opportunity to set off a roaring trade. Cynical me. regards doogal
Paul Reed Posted 5 August , 2005 Share Posted 5 August , 2005 I have never heard of any UK based photographers; most were set up locally by Frenchmen. The company 'Guillemont' from Paris seemingly set up a franchise, or set up people in key areas to lay on studios for the troops. There were also many 'ad hoc' studios in villages behind the lines, where the locals took photos in their back garden. Sadly the archives of Guillemont have not survived.
