Does anybody know if the war diaries for this unit are available at the NA? if so what is the ref No. I can't seem to get much joy searching the NA site (I never can!)

WO95/2081

July 1915 to Feb 1918

In the Catalogue use "South Lancashire" as the name search and "WO95" as the series reference.

Thanks Steve

I have just looked at your reply. Using your reference advice I looked up the 19th (Western) Division 7th Bn South Lancashire Regiment. {Butterfly}(WO95/2082) It worked. I have placed an order for an excerpt paper copy of the war diary. In particular I would like to find out where my Gt Grandfather was during his "first theatre of war" which according to his medal card was 18 July 1915 in France. I know he was killed in action on 5 July 1916 at La Boiselle.

I am now eagerly awaiting to see what turns up in the post!

kind regards

Margaret

Er, Margaret.

WO95/2082 is the 8th Battalion North Staffordshire Regiment Feb 1918 to May 1919. Is that what you wanted?

The 7th South Lancashire Regiment is WO95/2081...

Steve.
