marc leroux Posted 31 July , 2005 Share Posted 31 July , 2005 I'm looking for anything that might describe how Captain Preston Alexander Chambers died. He was apparantly Court Martialed and discharged from the service for drunkeness on 5-April-1917. My local newspaper indicates that he he died in early 1918 (listed in newspaper on May 3, 1918). He was a Vetrinary surgeon. I am trying to find out what happened to him between his CM and death. Any help would be much appreciated. marc leroux Posted 1 August , 2005 Author Share Posted 1 August , 2005 I thought that the CWGC and CEF Roll of Honour only included men who had died in or as a result of the war, but am likely incorrect in this. Capt. Chambers was (presumably) alive when he was cashiered from the service, and died sometime later. The obit notice in the paper is worded such that a casual reader would believe he died in service, but it doesn't say that, only that he died in London. Since he wasn't in the CEF/BEF at the time he cold have slipped through the cracks, and his parents presumably could have been too embarrased to rectify that. It is interesting that his name shows up on a local memorial. marc
