andigger Posted 30 July , 2005 Share Posted 30 July , 2005 I went to the Neue Gallerie (NYC) today in eager anticipation of seeing the Otto Dix and Max Backmann War and Hell exhibit. I have to admit seeing all of Dix's sketches were incredible. There were 50 on display and most were the famous images we see reproduced on the covers of books. However, I have to admit on the whole I left disappointed with the museum and exhibit itself. There were several of his sketches that were mounted so high you could not appreciate the detail. Also, the exhibit was rather small - about 70 works at most between both artists. It was $7 admission and the rest of the museum (which itself is not large) held very little of interest for me personally. I felt like I had bought the proverbial albulm which has only one song I am interested in. Additionally the gift shop had no post cards or prints of the pictures/sketches and the two books with Dix's works were large (costly) ones. I am glad I went, though I would give it an average recommendation. Andy
Jack Sheldon Posted 31 July , 2005 Share Posted 31 July , 2005 You were not the only one to be shocked at the prices, so was one of Dix's own characters. Jack
