carninyj Posted 30 July , 2005 Share Posted 30 July , 2005 Please try to find this soldier for me on SDGW. I cannot identify him from the CWGC site alone. His parents' headstone in Aghalee Cemetery, Co Antrim says as follows: James Haddock, son of John & Mary K Haddock, was KIA on 31st August 1917, aged 38 years. It further states that he was 'buried in Bailleul, France'. The only CWGC that comes near is for a Royal Engineer. Regards Carninyj
Tom Morgan Posted 30 July , 2005 Share Posted 30 July , 2005 Carninjy - There are three soldiers of that name listed. Only one of them died in 1917, but the date given is 20th August. This is 57707 2/Cpl. James Haddock, 2nd Field Survey Company, Royal Engineers. He was born in Lurgan, Co. Armagh, and enlisted in Belfast. There is no entry for his place of residence. (He is buried in Bailleul.) Hope this helps. Tom
carninyj Posted 30 July , 2005 Author Share Posted 30 July , 2005 Thanks Tom. He's the one I thought might be right. Aghalee is not far from Belfast and if there are no others closer I suppose it must be him. The details are being added to a sheet sent by the British War Graves people (as an extra family grave) and so they need to be reasonably accurate. Still, I think we might run with that one.
