smiths565 Posted 30 July , 2005 Share Posted 30 July , 2005 Hello everybody I am researching Allen Morris (surname Morris) - he was from Sheffield and his name appears on my local war memorial in Stannington His medal card says Description Medal card of Morris, Allen Corps Regiment No Rank West Yorkshire Regiment 14154 Lance Corporal West Yorkshire Regiment 14154 Corporal but the CWGC says MORRIS Initials: A Rank: Lance Corporal Regiment: West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wales's Own) Unit Text: 11th Bn. Date of Death: 15/08/1918 Service No: 12684 Can anybody tell me why the service number is different, or have I simply got the wrong man. Thanks Robert. Raster Scanning Posted 30 July , 2005 Share Posted 30 July , 2005 The other man is listed as 12648 on the medal roll not 12684. 12648
smiths565 Posted 30 July , 2005 Author Share Posted 30 July , 2005 Ive done searches for A Morris on the CWGC and sorted into date order - there is no entry for the date of his death, 28/07/1916. I've also sorted by regiment and service number - still no joy. If he is missing from the CWGC, what should I do next. I have all the details I need on this man except which cemetry/memorial he is in/on. Any ideas? Thanks in advance Robert.
