Steven Broomfield Posted 27 July , 2005 Share Posted 27 July , 2005 Chris Bn History says 20/21st August 1916 "Wiring parties were busy putting out more wire and strengthening that in existence; they were not interfered with by the enemy." They were in the Hebuterne sector, more or less opposite the Quadrilateral. I have the book - if you want more, let me know. Steven

Steven <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Checking again, the casualty DOW so could have been wounded sometime before 20/21st August. Where there any signifcant actions in the preceeding days? The man is an O.R so would not be named. Chris.
Steven Broomfield Posted 28 July , 2005 Share Posted 28 July , 2005 They certainly had been at delville Wood - from 24th July through to 7th August, during which time the Bn had lost 4 officers and 45 o.r. killed, 8 o.r. missing, and 7 officers and 225 o.r. wounded. As far as I can tell from the book, they were out of the Line until 16th August, and did not in fact go into the front Line until the 20th; on the night of 20/21 they were wiring, but report no interference from the enemy. My guess is your interest was wounded at Delville Wood and died a week or so after. Not uncommon, poor devil.

And you right, for DOW the cross of scarifice seems more like crucifiction. Chris.
