My uncle was awarded DSM for his part in an action on 12 May 1918 when his sub, D4, torpedoed UB72. I have found mentions in various books (e.g. Terraine, Grant, Carr) and received help from RNSM at Gosport. However I have never yet found any official ADM record similar to an army 'War Diary' at Kew. Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

Hello

You will be more likely to find a report of proceedings in ADM 1, than a war diary. When I began I was looking for war diaries for all sorts of organisations, only to find none were kept. Failing a r.o.p., try the war diary for the port that submarine was based in.

All best and good luck
