TD60 Posted 25 July , 2005 Share Posted 25 July , 2005 Well known General in the french army, opposed to the soviets, his grandson joined the red army at the end of WW2. This grandson started in the red army as captain and was later ranked Lieutenant Colonel (more exactly the equivalent in the red army). He received several russian medals and met Joukov several times. Who is this general ?

TD60 Posted 27 July , 2005 Author Share Posted 27 July , 2005 The answer was not too complicated I think : Ferdinand Foch. I read with interest the book of his grandson Henry Founier-Foch: "Kaptain Tovarich Foch". An estonishing story ! This famous general has lost both his only son and his only son-in-law in combat: Both killed the same day in beginning of august 1914 Regards. bobpike Posted 28 July , 2005 Share Posted 28 July , 2005 Foch Aspirant Germain J L 131st. Infantry 22.8.14 – Gorcy French Nat Cemetery. I've never found out where the son-in-law (a Captain Becourt) is buried. Both were buried in a common grave at Yprecourt, but obviously Foch was moved to Gorcy. Any ideas? TD60 Posted 29 July , 2005 Author Share Posted 29 July , 2005 Do you have the story of why Foch's grandson served in the Red Army? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hello his grandson was an officier (Capitaine) pow in germany and when the russian army arrived he could explain where the defenses of the little town, he was, where installed and gave a very good advice how to attack the town. The tactic he suggested fully succeded: four dangerous 88 german guns where destroyed without any russian tank destroyed. Then he was in charge to gather the frenchmen found in the East of germany. POW, workers, soldiers of alsace included in the german army, members of the LVF (french volunterrs to fight against bolchevist) etc... All things where desorganised. Unusual story.... It was my reading two weeks ago. Kind regards.
