Further to a post I made in the wants section about 'silks' a couple of Pals have mailed me and asked what do they look like so here is an example:

Silk postcards were very much a cottage industry in WW1. French ladies would do the embroidery on a large piece of material, several to the sheet. They would then be cut and stuck onto card.

A friend of mine has one of the sheets with eight or so designs on that never got to the cutting stage. Fantastic work for what was a poorly paid occupation.
