Guest guthroth Posted 22 July , 2005 Share Posted 22 July , 2005 Hi Can anyone tell me how Anti-aircraft guns were organised in France ? I assume it started as an ad hoc arrangement, but that it moved on to a formal basis. In particular, what size weapons were used and how were they organised ? Were they truck mounted ? How were they deployed ? Apart from those place to protect observation baloons, were there mobile units which could be moved to support ground units ? Many thanks in advance, Pete

Old Tom Posted 23 July , 2005 Share Posted 23 July , 2005 Hello The following is a very brief summary according to my note from General Farndale’s Histrory of the Royal Regiment in WW1. By the end of the war there were two AA guns in use, the 13 pounder (adapted from the 13 pounder field gun) and the 3”. These were in units of two guns called sections. Some were vehicle mounted. Distribution by sections was GHQ- 2, L of C – 48, each Army had a different numbers, about 25.
