kerry Posted 21 July , 2005 Share Posted 21 July , 2005 Dear Pals, I am drafting a teacher's briefing pack and would like to populate it with non-copyright b/w photos of the Ypres salient and trench scenes in general, to try to provide a visual interpretation of the text. I have had a look but can't seem to find any sites of British troops in the trenches. Any ideas of links anyone could help me with? Thanks Kerry

Thanks Kerry <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Kerry, In terms on "non-copyright" then contemporary postcards may now no longer have copyright protection (I emphasise the "may" as copyright is a complex field). However, if this is for educational purposes, then I believe that the Imperial War Museum photo archive allows use of images for educational purposes without a fee. You'd have to check the details on their website which is here - check "terms and conditions". Alan
the gunners dream Posted 21 July , 2005 Share Posted 21 July , 2005 Kerry Try these: http://home.hccnet.nl/jm.witte/NL/photobook/diversefotos.htm http://www.greatwardifferent.com/Great_War/index.htm http://www.english.uiuc.edu/maps/ww1/photoessay.htm Generally if you contact the web host and tell them why you'd like to use the images then they don't mind, especially if you provide links to their sites. Copyright for photos are generally as it is for primary sources. As long as you're not putting massive swaves of literature into the content then it's fine. I also happen to know a fair few authors of books on the Western Front that we could ask. If you're still stuck I also have images myself that I can scan for you and send them on. Just PM me if you want any. Steve Smith
