One on my list !

Pte John Arhtur Cornish G/15709 "B" Company 11th Royal Sussex Regt died aged 26 on 20th September 1916. CWGC has note " his brother Tom was very badly wounded at the same time by the same shell" Buried Auchonvillers Military Cemetery.

I cannot find a Tom Cornish on CWGC. I am assuming Tom served in the same Battn to be struck by the same shell ! Must assume therefore that although "very badly hurt" he survived !

Can anyone help with any details of John and Tom please?

Had a quick look on MIC'c and would guess they are the following:

Pte. G/1571 Thomas Cornish Sussex Regt - also number of 512 Army Cyclist Corps

and

G/1570 John Cornish Sussex Regt - also number of 511 Army Cyclist Corps

Just giving their Sussex numbers as they came up online.

Just to confirm that 'Tom Cornish' is G/15710 Pte Thomas Cornish, 11th Bn Royal Sussex Regiment (1st South Downs). They were both re-enforcements who joined the battalion in about August 1916. I researched their story and including it in Walking The Somme, albeit briefly. Tom survived the war.
