Guest FRANKBARTHOLOMEW Posted 14 July , 2003 Share Posted 14 July , 2003 In an Army Corps, what positions would be filled by Staff Officers? Having checked via search engine and this site, I cannot find out much: except that a Corps had 18 staff officers, was commanded by a Lieutenant General or General, and its senior staff officer was a Brigadier General. Any help?
Bryn_Hammond Posted 14 July , 2003 Share Posted 14 July , 2003 Based on Becke, in 1918 there'd be:- BGGS - Brigadier-General General Staff GSO1 (I think (very unsurely) that he was the former's deputy) DA & QMG - Deputy-Adjutant & Quartermaster-General BGRA - Brigadier-General Royal Artillery (Commander of the Artillery of the Corps) CE - Chief Engineer AD Signals - Assistant-Director(?) Signals DDMS - Deputy Director of Medical Services ADVS - Assistant-Director Veterinary Services I also think there would be GSO2 and GSO3 grades and assume that all the above had deputies to their posts. That could (stretching a point) make just about the right numbers for your 18, Frank.
Guest FRANKBARTHOLOMEW Posted 14 July , 2003 Share Posted 14 July , 2003 Thanks Bryn, I'll look up some biographies on the internet for WWII General Officers and see what I can dig up. What ranks held the posts of DA&QMG, CE, AD Signals, DDMS and ADVS? Sorry, I should have asked earlier.
