Remembered Today:

Absent Voters List Liverpool

Hello,

I have been trying to track down the Absentee voters List for Liverpool and I emailed the Central Library Record Office . Below is their reply:

We have had other enquiries about this list and we would dearly like to know

if a copy has survived but we don't have one here.

My only other thought would be the National Arvhives in Kew www.pro.gov.uk

<www.pro.gov.uk>

The ordinary register only gives an indication that the person is a service

voter.

Thought this may be of use to those looking for the list.

Best,

Sam

Might also be worth trying the British Library - they don't have a complete set of Electoral Registers for that period but they have some - I understand they also have some AVLs. Try their website here for a general overview.

I think this is might be indicating that it's one of the type of registers where "absent" and "ordinary" voters are integrated into the same list and there is no separate Absent Voters List.

We've had this discussion before on the Fourm and, from memory, I think it was up to each Returning Officer to decided on the format. It also means some registers include the name of the unit against the person's name whilst others onl;y indicate if Military or Naval.

For example, the Stockport town register includes a separate AVL and includes serving unit. The outlying rural areas have an integrated list and the absent voters are indicated only by M or N (Military, Naval)
