Bob Coulson Posted 15 July , 2005 Share Posted 15 July , 2005 Thought this might be of interest, from our local evening paper. "Raymond Miller was one of ten crew lost when the cargo ship SS Ysellhaven sank off Hartlepool on March 19th 1919. The ship carrying 183,941 bushels of rye from Baltimore to Copenhagen hit a mine left over from WW1. His body was washed up at Redcar ten days later and he was buried in Coatham Cemetery." A yearly service inspired by the story of the US sailor is now held at Christ Church Coatham and will be held this Sunday at 10-30am in rememberance of Raymond Miller and all seafarers who perished. The service will hopefully be attended by US representatives. Bob.
