Northern Soul Posted 14 July , 2005 Share Posted 14 July , 2005 I have found reference to a Second Lieutenant J. W. Brown, of the Royal Air Force, from Barrow-in-Furness, who was reported missing on a night bombing raid in mid to late 1918, and the newspaper report indicates that, because no news had been heard from him that he was presumed lost by the War Office. It also states that he was 18 ½ years old. I can’t find anyone on the CWGC site that fits the bill and so it could be that he was a prisoner after all. Can anyone help identify this man? Cheers. Andy.
Dolphin Posted 14 July , 2005 Share Posted 14 July , 2005 Andy 2Lt J W Brown was the observer in FE 2b D9921 of No 101 Sqn RAF, flown by Lt B H Kewley on 24 September 1918. The airmen were on a night bombing mission when forced down behind enemy lines and taken Prisoner of War. I hope this helps. Gareth
