Dolphin Posted 14 July , 2005 Share Posted 14 July , 2005 2049 was a BE 2c flown by 2Lt Arthur Richard Howe Browne (an Australian) and 1AM W H Cox (from Derby, UK) on 5 December 1915. It was escorting a photographic reconnaisance mission to Bellinglise when shot down. A victory was credited to Ltn Gustav Leffers of Kampfeinsitzerkommando (KEK) Bertincourt, who claimed a BE over Achiet le Grand at 1400. 2Lt Browne died of wounds and 1AM Cox was captured. 2049 was the 1st of Leffers' eventual 9 victories. 4092 was also a BE 2c, and was flown by Lt Gavin Alexander Porter (from Kalgoorlie, Western Australia) and 1AM Henry Josiah Kirkbride when shot down on the same mission as 2049 on 5 Devember. A victory was credited to Oblt Ernst, Freiherr von Althaus of Fliegerabteilung 23. Both crew members of 4092 were killed in action. 4092 was the 1st of Althaus's eventual 9 victories. There's more information on the action in Norman Franks' Sharks Among Minnows; ISBN 1 902304 92 6. I hope this helps. Gareth
