Nick.............The 2/1 Bucks Battalion were fighting in the subsidiary battle at Fromelles on the 19th July 1916. The battle at Fromelles was pretty much a disaster. The Australian units which participated suffered very badly. Rough figures were about 5,500 casualties for the 5th Australian Division. The 61st Division which 2/1 Bucks Battalion were a part of was also badly mauled.........so much so that it wasn't used for the remainder of the 1916 campaign.
