I am trying to trace 54896 George Frederick Goldthorpe/Gouldthorpe of Barton upon Humber.

Killed in action Black Watch 26/9/15 (parish magazine) Battalion

At Loos

No record in CWGC.

Any Black Watch historians out there? Any info would be greatefully received, a photo (copy) or service record would be even better.

Thanks a lot

His is listed on the CWG database: S/4896 Sgt George Frederick Gouldthorp, C Coy, 9th Bn Black Watch. Aged 33, died 25.9.15. Son of Tom and Sarah Jane Gouldthorp, 46 Marsh Lane, Barton-on-Humber, Lincs. Served 12 years in the Royal Navy. Commemorated on the Loos Memorial.

Note there is no "e" on the end of his name. Soldiers Died in the Great War shows that he enlisted at Ardrossan, and spells his name with the "e".

Sean,

If Derek aka "9th Black Watch" doesn't see this post I suggest you might want to PM him or e-mail him. Though he does have an uncanny knack of turning up when the battalion is even whispered of on the Forum.

KIA at Loos.

He's on the Loos Memorial to the missing. I could e.mail you a copy of that bit of the panel if you wish.
