egbert Posted 10 July , 2005 Share Posted 10 July , 2005 Does anybody know the exact location of the late 1916 German Military Cemetery location in Bertincourt (the villlage of B. appr. 10km from Bapaume) and could post/send a map reference or even pic? CROONAERT Posted 11 July , 2005 Share Posted 11 July , 2005 Egbert. Just looked at about 9 different 1917 and 1918 trench-maps (british and german) ranging in scale between 1:10,000 and 1:25,000 that show the village of Bertincourt. Sorry. Drawn a blank on all of them! Dave.
egbert Posted 11 July , 2005 Author Share Posted 11 July , 2005 Dave thank you very much for the time you spent investigating!!! The younger soldier in my avatar was buried in Bertincourt 5 October 1916. Sure the grave/cemetery was destroyed later in the course of the Somme campaigns. I just wanted to remember him at the occasion of my September visit to Somme at "exactly" the right place.....
AOK4 Posted 12 July , 2005 Share Posted 12 July , 2005 Egbert, I couldn't find anything on any of my Somme maps either. Jan
