Will be at Avril Williams' place for four days in August (2-5th). Will be rushing up and down the 1st July front line but hope to meet up with any other Forum 'Pals' whilst there.

Bill,

Hope you had a good time and maybe met up with some other forum members?

I reckon you chose the good weather. I was there on 1st July in very wet conditions - which suited me fine as I was on foot, suitably dressed and pretty much had the whole area to myself! Lots of coaches and cars congregating around the key commemoration sites - but the cemeteries, the roads and the fields were otherwise deserted.

Avril's was full in terms of accommodation at the time, so had to travel in from Arras. Did stop at Avril's for breakfast after the Lochnagar ceremony.

Can't remember if there is such a thing as a Forum member's badge or some other way of identifying each other. Did you have any luck?

David

Dah

If you need accommodation in that part of the battlefield, on another occasions, I can throughly recommend Julie Renshaw's guest house at Les Galets, she is on the Beaumont Road the Sunken Land and Hawthorn Redoubt. The accommodation is good and the food excellent- see more on www.lesgalets.com

Good four days in early August. Weather pretty iffy (as with most of Northern France this summer) but a good time had be all. Only downside two of us went down with a bug/food poisoning for a couple of days.

Avril in usual good form and excellent company. Lots of animals and the noisiest (and earliest rising!) cockerels in all of France!

So, nothing changes :D
