Hello everybody :)

I am looking for details of F.B. Eyre - I know his regiment has the initials R W K because they appear on a memorial plaque. Can anybody suggest what R W K is ?

Thanks in advance

Robert.

Robert,

in case you were interested the 11th Batt R W K were reorganised at the beginning of Oct 1916 receiving a large draft from the Royal Fusiliers.

they attacked the ridge overlooking Ligney- Thilloy and La Barque and aprt of the trench system known as the GIRD.

the attack started on the 7th when it was enfiladed by machine gun fire from both flanks and halted after 100 yards.

very heavy casualties, 4 officers 100 other ranks were uninjured,

releived on the 9th.

little bit of back ground for you.
