Landsturm Posted 4 July , 2005 Share Posted 4 July , 2005 My guess would have been either German or Belgian...?
andigger Posted 4 July , 2005 Share Posted 4 July , 2005 Unless someone in Luxembourg picked up a gun and got a few rounds off. Don't forget the rail junction at Trois Verge, Lux was the first bit of territory outside German to go. Andy
ceebee Posted 6 July , 2005 Share Posted 6 July , 2005 Is it true on the Western Front August 1914 the first blood spilled was a French soldier and a German Cavalryman Officer named Meier/Meyer? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Gene Smith in his book called Still Quite on the Western Front refers to the incident in his opening chapter. The two soldiers were a 21 years old Frenchman, Corporal Jules Andre Peugeot of the 44th Regiment of Infantry, and a 22 years old German cavalry officer, Lieutenant Albert Camille Mayer. The event took place on 2 August 1914, "some 30 hours before the declaration of war between Germany and France", on the road to the village of Joncherey, near the southern border of France with Switzerland and Germany (as it was then). I'll post a picture of the two men once I work out how to resize the image. Chris
