Stewart1966 Posted 3 July , 2005 Share Posted 3 July , 2005 My great grandfather was killed in Oct 1914 and his brother in Oct 1918, however I have never been able to track down the death certificates for either of them through the BMD registers. I was under the impression that those killed in the Great War had death certificates issued exactly the same as civilians in the UK at that time. Could anybody confirm if this was the case. kinnethmont Posted 3 July , 2005 Share Posted 3 July , 2005 In Scotland Death Certs were issued, and still can be obtained today, from Service Returns which gave lists of casualties by regiment. I believe this also was the case in England.
Terry Denham Posted 3 July , 2005 Share Posted 3 July , 2005 Stewart All military personnel who died overseas should have death certificates. They should appear in the GRO Overseas Deaths Index available online at www.1837online.com rather than in the normal UK certificate registers. Of course, there may be the odd one or two missing! What were their names?
