Frederick L Hawkins was in the Royal Army Medical Corps (no. 1771) and the Royal Field Artillery (No. 877029)

His RFA number is a Territorial Force number issued in early 1917. Each RFA Brigade was issued a set block of numbers. This number was allocated to the 272nd Brigade of the Royal Field Artillery of 54th (East Anglian) Division. The artillery of this division saw action in France during 1916 and then Egypt and Palestine from early 1917. (The Infantry of the Division was in Galliploi at the time)

The 272nd Brigade changed names several times. Up to May 1916 it was the 1st East Anglian Brigade, to Dec 1916 it was the 270th Brigade RFA and thereafter the 272nd Brigade (most likely when Frederick was with them)

He was probably in the RAMC first and then the RFA.

I hope this helps,

Steve.
