Malcolm, Jock and Graham,

Thanks for your replies on the Scottish Horse Regt.

The info. was very good and much appreciated although

I agree it can be confusing at times.

The reason behind my question is in regard to a VC. awarded

to a member of this regt. during the Boer War and I was

uncertain whether the Regt. was classed as a South African

or British army unit during this war.

Many thanks to you all,

Alan.

  • 4 years later...

According to family lore, my Great Uncle, Pte. Thomas Spence initially enlisted with the Marquis of Tullibardine in 1915.

Then, according to the oral reports, he was transferred into the 1/7 Black Watch and immediately shipped off to the front, where he died of wounds.

His Medal Roll index card does show two regimental numbers.

Can any one shed any light on these events?

Thank You in advance.

Gordon
