I would be grateful if anyone can help me in ascertaining the whereabouts of the 1/4th York and Lancaster Regiment during the first half of October 1917.

I am researching a soldier Private Walton Bell who died on the 9th October 1917 and is commemorated at Tyne Cot.

Best wishes

HI

Just logged on to this site and seen your post. My fathers uncle was in the 1st/4th Bn., York and Lancaster Regiment and died on Tuesday 9th October 1917 aged 21. His name was Private George Dandy 203522. I have been to the Tyne Cot Memorial and seen his name on the panel. I am afraid that is as far as i can go but one interesting aspect is that on his campaign medals around the outside it says 5732 Pte. G. Dandy. Northumberland Fus ? Does anybody know why
