Chris_B Posted 1 July , 2005 Share Posted 1 July , 2005 I'd be grateful if someone could tell me the whereabouts of "C Coy. 3rd Bn. Rifle Brigade" on and around 25/05/1918. Thanks, Chris.
stiletto_33853 Posted 1 July , 2005 Share Posted 1 July , 2005 Chris, 3rd R.B.s were as follows 1st May 1918 we marched to Magnicourt and on 2nd May to Bully-Grenay where we remained in Divisional Reserve until the 13th when we went to Les Brebis. On the 18th we relieved the 8th Btn Queens in the line opposite Lens. On the 30th we were relieved by the 1st Btn Royal Fusiliers and moved back to billets at Les Brebis. We remained in this sector until 30th September doing eight days in the line and eight days out. The first few weeks were a very anxious time as the enemy was expected to attack at any moment and consequently defence schemes and extra working parties for the purpose of digging out and reconstructing old trenches were very numerous. Rifle Brigade Chronicle 1919, War record of the 3rd Battalion, 1918. Hope this helps a little. Andy
stiletto_33853 Posted 1 July , 2005 Share Posted 1 July , 2005 Chris, Regimental History says the following. On May 1st and 2nd a move was made, by stages, into Divisional Reserve at Bully-Grenay. Until the 18th the Battalion was finding working parties; on the 5th the wearing of shorts began, on the 10th thirteen officers and one hundred and seven other ranks went to the Divisional wing of the Corps Reinforcement Camp for rest and training, the personnel to be changed each Thursday, and on the 13th the Battalion moved to Les Brebis. On the 18th the Third Battalion went into the line in the northern sub sector of the brigade front, being disposed in depth south east and south of Loos. On the 30th the Battalion returned to Les Brebis. Andy
