Chris_B Posted 30 June , 2005 Share Posted 30 June , 2005 I'd be grateful if someone can tell me the whereabouts of the "23rd Bn. Royal Fusiliers" on and around the 30/09/1918. Thanks, Chris.
Wienand Drenth Posted 30 June , 2005 Share Posted 30 June , 2005 THis battalion was in 99th Brigade, part of 2nd Division at the time you write. Steven Broomfield Posted 1 July , 2005 Share Posted 1 July , 2005 According to Bn History, they were attacking a strong enemy position of the Mount sur l'Ouvres, suffering 2 officer and 64 o.r. casualties. The Divnl History states the same, and adds that the 62nd Div also suffered heavily. The position had also been attacked the previous day, and was described as "a regular hornets nest of machine guns, and all attempts to advance were swept away by an extremely accurate and murderous fire" The position was finally captured the follwoing day after an attack by the 2nd Divn and the 3rd Divn. The place is S of Cambrai, about 1500 yards NE of Marcoing.
