I would be very grateful if you could provide any information on the whereabouts of the 1st Battalion East Kent on the 17th April 1918

I am researching a soldier, Private G S Robinson who was wounded this day and who died on the 26th April 1918

Best wishes

Draperju,

The whereabouts of the 1st Battalion East Kent on the 17th April 1918

I can narrow it down a bit for you:

On 17th-19th April 1918 the 1st Bn East Kent Regt [buffs] were attached to 16th Inf Bde, 6th Inf Div.

The Division took part in the First Battle of Kemmel [The Battles of Lys] The Geographical area for the battle consisted of: Road Meteren-Mont des Cats-Boeschepe-Reninghelst-Ouderdom-Vierstraat-Wytschaete.

Arthur

They were Westhoek "and the neighbourhood" from the 15th to the 23rd of April. They had been reinforced the week before with a draft of 230 men. On the 17th they were heavily shelled with the result that CSM Field and 11 others were wounded. At the time a German offensive had developed south of Ypres causing the loss of Messines Ridge and Kemmel Hill. They moved back on the 23rd to the town ramparts at Ypres

Hope this helps Hambo

Moody is wrong in this instance. Thirteen other ranks from A and D Companys were injured on the 17th when posts 7 and 8 were shelled. B and C Companys were in camp.

Robinson only served in the 1st Bn.
