Remembered Today:

Death certificates

Could anyone tell me if death certificates were issued to the familys of men

killed in action or died at home. If so would copies of these be available in

the registrars office local to where the man last lived or where family lived.

Thanks Doug

Doug

Death certificates for men who died in WW1 are held at:

The Family Records Centre

1 Myddleton St

London

EC1R 1UW

Tel: 020 8392 5300 or 0151 471 4816 for enquiries about certificates.

They also have a web site: www.satistics.gov.uk

Doug,

I believe that the index for deaths overseas are to be found at the PRO in a special section of the general GRO indexes (look for the section housing the 1901 census). My experience (limited) of WW1 death certificates is one of very limited information.
