Happy Birthday

Scotlands oldest First World War veteran celebrated his 109 th birthday yesterday. Alfred Anderson spent the day with family and friends at his home town of Alyth, Perthshire. The Black Watch veteran received his 10th telegram from the Queen and said. " I don't feel any different "

Alfred still lives in his own home.

Here's to him.

Many happy returns indeed. I liked his crack about the one thing he would like is a new pair of legs.

This man is unique in more ways than one - he is also the last Old Contemptible and holder of the 1914 Star. And probably the last veteran who served on the Somme in 1916.
