PeteS Posted 23 June , 2005 Share Posted 23 June , 2005 According to CWGC Sgt JHW Hall of 7th Bn Seaforth Highlanders was killed in May 1917 at Arras, attached to 26th Trench Mortar Battery (he had been for some months). Was 26th TMB the Trench Mortary Btty attached to (operating with & in support of) 7th Seaforths, or would it mean that he was detached from his Bn and serving with a TMB elsewhere on the front ? Any advice GREATLY appreciated. Thanks

PeteS Posted 23 June , 2005 Author Share Posted 23 June , 2005 Thanks Malcolm so he'd be serving in support of the Brigade I guess. What sort of mortars did they use, were these the very small tubes which were carried to whatever point required and simply rammed into the ground ready to be used at close range ?
