Tony Lund Posted 21 June , 2005 Share Posted 21 June , 2005 I have just received a copy of my Grandfather mic and it has a couple of surprises. It tells me he was awarded the trio, this is news to me, I have his BWM but that is all. It also tells me he first served in France (I thought it was Egypt!) In front of the word France is a 1/, does this mean he served in an unmentioned 2nd theatre later? (ie Eygpt)? There is an interesting date in the Remarks section but I can not make out the remark in front of it. Any ideas? Thanks, Tony.
HERITAGE PLUS Posted 21 June , 2005 Share Posted 21 June , 2005 2Res for To Reserve?
Simon Jones Posted 21 June , 2005 Share Posted 21 June , 2005 Tony It looks like 'Z Res', ie Z Reserve. There is plenty on the forum about this and the Long Trail has info on it here. Regards Simon
Tony Lund Posted 21 June , 2005 Author Share Posted 21 June , 2005 Thanks I have just read it and I now think he was discharged to the Z Reserve on 8-4-1919. Tony. (I thought it was 2res)
Stebie9173 Posted 21 June , 2005 Share Posted 21 June , 2005 Your other question: 1/ is just the number code for France & Flanders (Western Europe). It usually accompanies the Theatre of War name. It does not of course exclude him going to Egypt later in the war of course... Steve.
