keith Posted 21 June , 2005 Share Posted 21 June , 2005 I have come across this on a couple of memorials in Rutland, also on the roll of honour in the church. the W next to a name is to say that they where wounded. and an + next to it the man was killed. you can just see this on the Stoke Dry memorial .first two killed and a W in front of the sixth man down . keith
bernardmcilwaine Posted 21 June , 2005 Author Share Posted 21 June , 2005 hiya keith, these letters look like they were either going to engrave another name or the name was added then erased, bernard
chris.wight Posted 21 June , 2005 Share Posted 21 June , 2005 Keith, were the two Neilsons on the Roll of Honour related? Here's Captain (Acting Major it seems) Malcolm Neilson's attestation paper, link and the after action report from the Vimy Battle detailing how he met his death, link.
